Technology – Creating Alternative Ways to Get Things Done

Technology’s been a wonderful thing. But sometimes it fails us. Fortunately, it has created multiple ways for us to do the same task.

So, you might think, "Well, if I have one way and it’s working well for me, why should I bother having an alternate way?" One could reason can be your primary way might not always work or you might not have access to that information. Having an alternate way to make it happen can be essential for helping keep you productive. It might even be a real lifesaver for you. Here are a number of thoughts in terms of different ways that you could have multiple means of accessing information.

1. Email. You have access to email through your primary computer, so that’s fine. But, what happens when you are away from the computer? What do you do then? Here are a couple suggestions.

- One is have email access through your cell phone. You are not going to be on your computer all the time. You’re going to be traveling in your car or otherwise. With the Smartphones, you can have access to your email, so you’re no longer dependent upon just being on your desktop to get email.

- A second option could be through the internet. Your service provider might also give you access to emails through the web. For example, I have Comcast as my underlying provider, so I pick up Comcast emails through my Outlook program on my computer or through my cell phone. However, there’s another way too and that is by using the Comcast website.

2. Internet access. Okay. You have access through the internet through your primary computer, but what about when you are traveling? Here too there are some alternate ways for making it happen.

- One is by having access through your computer when it’s on the road, if you have the laptop. This could be through a hotspot, such as through Starbucks, through wireless access.

- Another is through a cellular wireless card, which can be plugged into a slot in your laptop.

- A third way is through a network cable, when wireless is not an option.

- A fourth way is through your Smartphone.

Technology has brought us a lot of information. Make sure you have alternate ways to keep it at your fingertips, so you can keep your business running effectively.
